政府説明責任局（Government Accountability Office: GAO）は、議会の要請に応える形で、技術評価報告書「モノのインターネット：ますますつながる世界の状況とその意味合い（Internet of Things: Status and implications of an increasingly connected world）」を発表した。報告書は、モノのインターネットの急速な台頭・普及によって重要な恩恵が新たに生まれる有望性があるとした上で、潜在的な課題として、①情報安全保障、②プライバシー、③安全性、④規格標準、⑤経済面への影響、などを挙げている。
