エネルギー省（Department of Energy）の化石燃料局（Office of Fossil Energy）は9月14日、戦略石油備蓄（Strategic Petroleum Reserve: SPR）の原油売却先を発表した。これは、21世紀治療法（21st Century Cure Act）」との5010セクションと、2015年超党派法（Bipartisan Budget Act of 2015）のセクション403の下で、それぞれエネルギー長官に2018年度の売却が義務付けられた合計1,400万バレルを売却したものである。売却先として競争的に選出されたのは、BPオイル・サプライ社（BP Oil Supply）、エクソン・モービル社（Exxon Mobil Corporation）など6社であった。
