環境保護庁（Environmental Protection Agency: EPA）は5月2日、EPAのエネルギー・スター（Energy Star）プログラムの一つとして、全国245件のビルのチームがエネルギー効率改善措置を競う「2011年版全米省エネビルコンペ：ビルの闘い（2011 National Building Competition: Battle of the Buildings）」を開始した。コンペには、小売店舗や学校、ホテル、博物館など様々な商業ビルのチームが参加し、ビルのエネルギー月間消費量を測定、記録する。その中から7月に決勝進出チームが選ばれ、11月にエネルギー消費削減の割合が最も高かったチームが最優秀チームとして表彰される。
