2025年1月の大統領令で指摘された「弾道ミサイル、極超音速ミサイル、巡航ミサイル、その他の先進的空中攻撃による攻撃の脅威」に対処するため、国防長官代理（Deputy Secretary of Defense）の指示を受け、米国宇宙軍（United States Space Force: USSF）は、米国ゴールデンドーム（Golden Dome of America: GDA）の直接報告プログラム・マネジャー（Direct Reporting Program Manager）と協力し、宇宙配備型迎撃機（Space-Based Interceptor: SBI）プログラムを確立した。本プログラムでは、宇宙配備型のミサイル防衛迎撃システムを開発し、2028年までにGDAのアーキテクチャーに統合可能な能力の実証を目指す。宇宙システム司令部（Space Systems Command）は4月24日、2025年後半から2026年初頭にかけて、アンドゥリル・インダストリーズ社（Anduril Industries Inc）、ブーズ・アレン・ハミルトン社（Booz Allen Hamilton Inc）社など12社に、20件の契約を発注したと発表した。契約は合計で最大32億ドルに達する可能性がある。
