米国標準技術局（National Institute of Standards and Technology：NIST）は、20年来の古い体制を一新し、研究所間の横断的連携を強化することを目指した新体制を発表した。10月1日から実施される今回の組織変更では、10あった研究所を、Material Measurement Laboratory、Physical Measurement Laboratory、Engineering Laboratory、Information Technology Laboratory、Center for Nanoscale Science and Technology、Center for Neutron Researchの6つに統合し、各研究所に担当する製品やサービスを研究から開発、製品化まで一貫して責任を持たせることになる。
