運輸省（Department of Transportation）は7月17日、ハンファ・フィリー造船所（Hanwha Philly Shipyard）における新型軍艦2隻の建造に20億ドルを投じると発表した。「勤労家族減税法（Working Families Tax Cut Act）」の財源を活用する大統領令に基づく取り組みで、ミサイル射程試験計測艦（Missile Range Instrumentation Vessels: MRIV）2隻を建造する。国防総省（Department of Defense）ミサイル防衛局（Missile Defense Agency: MDA）が保有する50年前に建造された老朽艦2隻に代わるもので、太平洋上でのミサイル迎撃試験などを監視する先進追跡機能を備え、国防に関する重要データ収集を支援する。造船工程を管理するトート・サービス社（TOTE Services）は、同省海事局（Maritime Administration: MARAD）の実証済み船舶建造管理モデルを採用して期限内かつ予算内での納入し、建造工程を迅速化する方針を示しており、1隻目は2030年6月までの納入を目指しているという。
