米特許商標局（U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: USPTO）は、人工知能（AI）分野における取り組みの一環として、今年1月31日に「人工知能：知的財産政策に関する検討（Artificial Intelligence: Intellectual Property Policy Considerations）」と題する会議を開催するなどしてきたが、今般、USPTOは、特許法とAIが交差する分野について、連邦広報（Federal Register）上で複数の質問を提示した。これは、USPTOがAI特許政策問題に関する情報を収集し、更なるガイダンスが必要とされるかどうかを評価し、かかるガイダンスの策定に情報提供するための第一歩である。​ ​ Department of Commerce “USPTO Announces Federal Register Notice on Artificial Intelligence Patent Issues” (8/27/19) ​
