厚生省（Department of Health and Human Services: HHS）は12月5日、内部業務の効率化に向け、人工知能（AI）を導入する「AI戦略」を発表した。医療サービス向上と行政効率化が目的で、「ワンHHS（OneHHS）」方針に基づき、疾病管理予防センター（Centers for Disease Control and Prevention: CDC）やメディケア・メディケイド・サービスセンター（Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services: CMS）、食品医薬品局（Food and Drug Administration: FDA）、国立衛生研究所（National Institutes of Health: NIH）など傘下の全組織が連携して統一的なAIインフラを構築する。政府のAI行動計画や行政管理予算局（Office of Management and Budget: OMB）の指針に沿った内容で、民間との連携も視野に入れている。戦略はガバナンスとリスク管理、インフラ設計、職員の能力開発、科学研究の再現性向上、医療・公衆衛生の近代化と五つの柱で構成されており、連邦議会の下院AIタスクフォースや上院AIワーキンググループは、戦略が透明性や公衆の信頼を重視している点を評価している。
