環境保護庁（Environmental Protection Agency: EPA）は、木材を使ったストーブ（薪ストーブ）や暖房器具から排出される大気汚染量について、2015年から適用される新基準の提案を行った。この新基準により、次世代のストーブや暖房器具は現在生産されている製品よりも80％クリーンになると試算されている。新基準が適用されるのは2015年から製造開始される製品で、現在既に販売あるいは使用されている製品は対象外となる。EPAは本提案に対するコメントを90日間受け付け、公聴会を開催した後、最終規則を2015年に発表する計画である。
