商務省（Department of Commerce）傘下の米国標準技術局（National Institute of Standards and Technology: NIST）は、大学及び大学院課程の標準教育を支援するため、5大学のプロジェクトに合計35万ドル以上を助成する。今回助成を行ったNISTの「標準サービス・カリキュラム開発共同契約プログラム（Standards Services Curricula Development Cooperative Agreement Program）」は2012年以来、27件のグラントに160万ドル以上を提供している。今回受益するのは、ニューヨーク市大学（City University of New York, The City College）、ドレキセル大学（Drexel University）、パーデュー大学（Purdue University）など5大学である。
