国土安全保障省（Department of Homeland Security: DHS）傘下の市民権・移民局（U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services: USCIS）は9月11日、特定の非移民ビザ保持者とその扶養家族に認められていた最大60日間の猶予期間（グレース・ピリオド）を廃止する規則改正案を公表した。連邦官報（Federal Register）によると、H-1Bビザなどの保持者が離職や解雇となった際、本来の在留期間内であれば最大60日間滞在して再就職やビザ変更を準備できる従来の運用を取りやめるもので、滞在資格と雇用関係を直接連動させることを提案している。同省は、行政負担の軽減が目的と説明しており、意見募集（パブリックコメント）の締め切りを11月10日に設定している。
