オバマ政権は5月29日、イノベーション主導型雇用の創出育成を目的としたコンペ、「先端製造雇用及びイノベーションの加速チャレンジ（Advanced Manufacturing Jobs and Innovation Accelerator Challenge）」を発表した。2,600万ドル規模の同コンペには、商務省経済開発局（Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration: EDA）、米国標準技術局（National Institute of Standards and Technology：NIST）、エネルギー省（Department of Energy）など6連邦機関が出資する他、農務省（Department of Agriculture: USDA）や教育省（Department of Education）など8機関が支援を提供する。加速チャレンジ・コンペの募集は今回が3回目となる。コンペを通じて、民間資本の活性化を促し、起業を奨励するエコシステムを作り、クラスター・ベースの地域開発を推進することが狙いである。今回のコンペでは約12件のプロジェクトが選出される予定となっている。
