米国アカデミー（National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine）は今般、「科学・工学・医学における女性の存在の低さに対処する有望な慣行（Promising Practices for Addressing the Underrepresentation of Women in Science, Engineering, and Medicine）」と題する報告書を発表した。米国アカデミーは報告書の中で、STEMM（science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and medicine＝科学、技術、工学、数学、医学）分野における女性の存在の低さに対処するには、同分野における文化を変える系統的な行動が必要であると要請している。大学は、STEMMにおける女性のリクルート、維持、進展を支える有望な戦略及び慣行を導入すべきであるとし、実用的な戦略を提示している。​
