米国国際開発庁（U.S. Agency for International Development: USAID）は12月11日、スウェーデン政府やデューク・エネルギー社（Duke Energy Corporation）、ドイツ政府、海外民間投資公社（Overseas Private Investment Corporation）との協力で行っている「農業の強化：開発のためのエネルギー・グランド・チャレンジ（Powering Agriculture: An Energy Grand Challenge for Development）」の下、1,300万ドルの資金を受益する12の組織を発表した。これらのグラントは、開発途上国でクリーン・エネルギー技術を農業に組み入れることを狙いとして行われる革新的なプロジェクトを支援するものである。
