国立衛生研究所（National Institutes of Health: NIH）の国立ヒトゲノム研究所（National Human Genome Research Institutes: NHGRI）は最近、8件の研究に対して合計約1,700万ドルのグラント提供を発表した。受益する8件のプロジェクトのうち5件はナノ細孔技術を用いたより正確で効率的なDNAシークエンシングを目的としたものとなっている。「ナノ細孔技術には大きな可能性があるが、まだまだ新しい科学分野である」と、NHGRIの先端DNAシークエンシング技術プログラム（Advanced DNA Sequencing Technology）のプログラム部長は述べている。
