スミソニアン協会（Smithsonian Institute）のウェイン・クロー会長（Wayne Clough）が2014年10月に引退することが明らかになった。ジョージア工科大学（Georgia Institute of Technology）の学長を務めていた同氏は、2008年に当時のクリスチャン・サンパー会長代理（Cristian Samper）の後任となった。スミソニアン理事会（Board of Regents）は今後、次期会長候補を特定する委員会を設置することになる。
