エネルギー省（Department of Energy）のアーネスト・モニツ長官（Ernest Moniz）とロシア国営企業ロストアム（Rosatom）のセルゲイ・キリエンコ局長（Sergey Kirienko、Director General）は9月16日、「米国とロシアにおける原子力及びエネルギー関連の科学研究開発協力に関する合意（Agreement between the Government of the United States of America and the Government of the Russian Federation on Cooperation in Nuclear- and Energy-Related Scientific Research and Development）」に署名した。合意は、米ロ両国の原子力研究所や機関、施設が様々な分野（原子力技術や不拡散、基礎及び応用科学など）で協力を拡大するために必要な法的枠組みを提供するものである。今後のプロジェクトの可能性としては、国際的なセーフガードや多目的高速研究炉の国際研究センター（Multi-Purpose Fast Research Reactor International Research Center）の確立などが含まれる。
