運輸省（Department of Transportation）の連邦航空局（Federal Aviation Administration：FAA）は最近、2件の提案規則を情報規制問題局（Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs）へ提出した。提出されたのは、①目視外の無人航空機システム運用の常態化（Normalizing Unmanned Aircraft Systems Beyond Visual Line of Sight Operations）と、②指定－固定施設の近隣における無人航空機運用の制限（Designation – Restrict the Operation of Unmanned Aircraft in Close Proximity to a Fixed Site Facility）の2件で、これらの規制を実現する上で主要なステップとなる。運輸省のショーン・ダフィー長官（Sean P. Duffy）は、「ドローンによる配送から重要インフラ検査の実施に至るまで、無人航空機は航空の未来を示す。長官としてのイノベーション議題の一環として、これらの無人航空機の普及を迅速に行い、安全性を強化するために重要な規則を推進する」と述べた。
