エネルギー省（Department of Energy）エネルギー効率・再生可能エネルギー局（Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy: EERE）のバイオエネルギー技術局（Bioenergy Technologies Office）は、農務省（U.S. Department of Agriculture: USDA）傘下の国立食料・農業研究所（National Institute of Food and Agriculture: NIFA）と共に、「2017年度バイオマス研究開発イニシアチブ（Fiscal Year 17 Biomass Research and Development Initiative: BRDI）」を通じて募集の要請（request for applications: RFA)を発表する意向を明らかにした。本要請を通じて、経済的および環境的に維持可能な再生可能バイオマス資源の開発、再生可能燃料とバイオベースの製品の有用性の強化、エネルギー・ポートフォリオの多様化の支援につながるプロジェクトに助成が行われる。USDAは2月にRFAを発表する計画である。
