政府説明責任局（Government Accountability Office: GAO）は4月30日、厚生省（Department of Human and Health Services）は、ヒトゲノムに関して海外の検査事業体による使用の追跡と安全対策を強化すべきであると提言した。ヒトゲノムデータについては、国立衛生研究所（National Institutes of Health: NIH）がゲノム研究への資金提供を、疾病対策予防センター（Centers for Disease Control and Prevention: CDC）がゲノム研究を実施するなどしている。国家情報長官室（Office of the Director of National Intelligence：ODNI）やその他の連邦機関は、特定の懸念国の政府は米国のゲノムデータにリスクを呈していると警告しているが、厚生省はリスク軽減措置を十分に実施していない。GAOは、「厚生省国家安全保障局（Office of National Security: ONS）は、サプライチェーンのリスク評価基準に関する訓練と指針を策定・普及すべき」など、4件を勧告している。
