上院議会は3月6日、商務省（Department of Commerce）の海洋大気担当次官（under secretary for oceans and atmosphere）として、キャサリン・サリバン氏（Kathryn D. Sullivan）を承認した。同氏は国立海洋大気庁（National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration：NOAA）の次期長官となる。キャサリン氏は過去1年間にわたり、NOAA長官代理を務めていた。同氏の承認は2013年7月以来、上院で保留となっていた。
