国立衛生研究所（National Institutes of Health: NIH）の一部で基礎研究及び研究研修を支援する国立一般医科学研究所（National Institute of General Medical Sciences: NIGMS）に、新たに2部門が発足した。いずれもNIGMSの既存プログラムおよび旧「国立研究資源センター（National Center for Research Resources: NCRR）」からNIGMSに移動されたプログラムの運営管理を行う。一つは、「訓練・労働力開発・多様性部門（Division of Training, Workforce Development, and Diversity）」で、NIGMSの研究研修プログラムと、以前は「研究における少数派機会部門（Division of Minority Opportunities in Research: MORE）」で行われていた活動、そしてNCRRの「制度的開発アワード・プログラム（Institutional Development Award program）」を管理する。もう一つの新部門は「バイオ医療技術・バイオインフォマティクス・コンピュテーショナル生物学部門（Division of Biomedical Technology, Bioinformatics, and Computational Biology）」で、NIGMSの「バイオインフォマティクス・コンピュテーショナル生物学センター（Center for Bioinformatics and Computational Biology）」で行われていたプログラム及びNCRRのバイオ医療技術プログラムが含まれる。
