エジソン電気研究所（Edison Electric Institute: EEI）が発表した「2024年財務レビュー：米国の投資家所有型電力業界の年間報告（2024 Financial Review: Annual Report of the U.S. Investor-Owned Electric Utility Industry）」によれば、米国の投資家所有型電力会社（民間電力会社）は2025～2029年に1兆1,000億ドル以上を投資する見込みである。増大する電力需要への対応を急ぐ中、資本支出を大幅に増加させる。報告書によれば、2015～2024年の資本支出は合計1兆3,000億ドルに達するという。EEIによれば、電力部門の資本支出は、米経済のその他のどの部門よりも多く、輸送や小売、その他の資本集約型産業を上回る。投資の大半は、データセンターによる需要増大への対応に充当される見込みである。
