Duffy）は8月1日、連邦鉄道局（Federal Railroad Administration）がボルチモア＝ワシントンDC間の超電導リニア（Superconducting Magnetic Levitation: SCMAGLEV）プロジェクト向けの2件のグラント（合計2,600万ドル以上）を打ち切りにすると発表した。その理由として、約10年に及ぶずさんな計画やコミュニティからの反発、大幅なコスト超過、そして具体的な成果が示されていないことを挙げている。SCMAGLEVプロジェクトは、超電導リニア技術を使ってボルチモアとワシントンDCを結ぶ高速鉄道プロジェクトで、その建設のための資本費用は約200億ドルと試算された。本プロジェクトへの連邦鉄道局の関与は2016年に遡る。
