米宇宙軍（U.S. Space Force）の宇宙作戦総司令官（Chief of Space Operations）のチャンス・サルツマン大将（Gen. Chance Saltzman）と、イタリア空軍参謀総長（Italian Air Force Chief of Staff）のルカ・ゴレッティ中将（Lt. Gen. Luca Goretti）は5月8日、重要な宇宙安全保障分野での相互協力を拡大することを意図した了解覚書（statement of understanding）に署名した。署名は、ローマで開催された2025年航空宇宙パワー会議（2025 Aerospace Power Conference）で行われた。抑止と防衛の重要性に関する共通の認識の下、宇宙領域の保護及び防衛に対する双方のコミットメントを強化する。宇宙の戦略的重要性が高まる中、米宇宙軍とイタリア空軍の間の了解覚書は、スキルの向上と集合的安全保障への寄与に関する貴重な機会を示すものとなっている。
